Orientation 2010!
Graduate student orientation begins on Tuesday (8/7/2010). This will give me the opportunity to acclimate to the campus prior to the start of classes, which will be the following Monday. I'm anxious and excited! It's gotten so bad that I stay up at night thinking about what I'm going to wear, trying to find business cards, and debating if I should be happy or mortified that I'm the youngest student?! In addition to having conflicting thoughts about brown or black pants, I haven't gotten much sleep these past couple of weeks because I've been preparing all of the required readings, taking pre-course exams, and completing career/personality assessments. The Full-time MBA program at DU consist of 2-3 cohorts of students who take the same classes together for the entire 2 years of study. This is practical and effective because it allows the students to build not only cohesive networks of business professionals, it also allows them to develop genuine friendships and life long colleagues. The academic years are separated into quarters with short intervals of breaks every few weeks.
Required personality assessments
The career and personality assessments that we are required to take have been the Insights Discovery Personal assessment and the CareerLeader assessment. The two assessments take 20-35 minutes each to complete. While I've taken numerous personality assessments over the years, I found both the Insights and CareerLeader results to be highly accurate. During orientation, we will discuss and evaluate the results which I assume will take over an hour to dissect, given the amount of informative feedback from the assessments. I will post an update on how to use these assessments in a professional setting as well as fine-tune on personal qualities that are presented after orientation.
